Our Initiation au Français program is structured by level. Whether you study one-on-one, in a live cohort, or at your own pace, the program follows the same proven structure.
A0-A1: Beginner
Ten progressive modules to move to A2. Build the foundation: basic vocabulary, present tense, daily life conversation, listening comprehension, and an introduction to reading and writing in French. Ten modules to move to A2.
A2 Level: Elementary
Comprising ten progressive modules designed to complete the A2 level, this curriculum enables learners to develop their command of past and future tenses while expanding their vocabulary across personal and professional subjects. Students will strengthen their reading and listening comprehension and practice structured writing.
Following the completion of these modules, students who wish to further advance can transition into a private, one-on-one B1 program.

French for Adults — Levels A0 to A2 - Video Link
1. I do not speak any French. Can I register?
Yes. Our “Initiation au français” introductory French programs are designed for learners starting at A0 or those who have only a few basic notions of French.
2. What is the difference between A0, A1, and A2?
A0 refers to a complete beginner with little or no knowledge of French.
At the end of A1 level, learners can understand and use simple everyday expressions.
At the end of A2 level, learners can communicate in a wider range of everyday situations and begin to have more independent conversations.
3. Do I need to take a placement test before starting?
It depends on your previous experience. A complete beginner can generally begin directly in an introductory program. If you have studied French before, you can take the following assessment(link)to see what your level would be.
4. I understand some French, but I cannot speak it. Which program should I choose?
This is very common. Your level should be determined by looking at several skills, including listening, reading, speaking, writing, vocabulary, and grammar. The best program is Initiation au français.
5. What teaching method do you use?
Our approach includes:
practical vocabulary;
essential grammar structures;
listening comprehension;
reading comprehension;
pronunciation;
guided conversations;
writing;
6. Is the course focused only on grammar?
If you take one on one program, we can definitely help you with the grammar.
However, in our group classes, grammar is taught as a tool to help learners communicate more effectively. Students also work on comprehension, vocabulary, pronunciation, and speaking.
7. Will I speak French from the beginning?
Yes. Even with very limited vocabulary, learners are gradually encouraged to use French through sentences and situations adapted to their level.
8. What language are explanations given in?
We use the “Sandwich Effect” method, especially with beginner learners.
A concept or instruction is first introduced in French, followed by a brief explanation in English when needed, and then repeated or reinforced again in French.
French → English → French
This approach helps beginners understand new concepts without becoming overly dependent on English, while maintaining regular exposure to French from the very beginning.
As learners progress and become more confident, the amount of English gradually decreases and more of the lesson is conducted in French.
9. How long does it take to reach A1 or A2?
The time it takes to progress varies from one learner to another. It depends on your starting level, lesson frequency, independent practice, exposure to French, and your individual ability to learn languages.
People have different strengths: some naturally learn languages quickly, while others may find subjects such as mathematics or science easier and need more time and repetition when learning a new language. For this reason, two learners starting at the same level may progress at very different rates.
To support steady progress, we recommend being exposed to French for at least 10 minutes every day, in addition to your classes. This can include listening to French, reviewing vocabulary, reading, speaking, or completing a short practice activity.
Consistency matters more than occasional long study sessions. Regular daily exposure helps reinforce what you learn in class and makes French a more natural part of your routine.
For this reason, we focus on consistent individual progress rather than promising that a specific level will be reached within a fixed period of time.
10. How much should I study each week?
Consistency is more important than occasional long study sessions. We recommend reviewing vocabulary regularly, listening to French, and practising between lessons.
11. Is there homework?
Exercises or review activities may be provided to help reinforce what has been covered in class.
12. Can I take classes if I work full-time?
Yes. Our adult programs are designed with the scheduling needs of working adults in mind.
13. Do you offer private lessons?
Yes. Private lessons are particularly suitable for learners with specific schedules, individual goals, or those who prefer to progress at their own pace.
14. Do you also offer group classes?
Yes. Group classes may be available depending on the learner's level and current registration periods. The group class is two evenings per week from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. (Might be Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays)
15. Are classes in person or online?
All of our adult French classes are offered online.
This includes both one-to-one lessons and our live online group cohorts.
Online learning allows adult students to attend from home or work while still participating in live lessons with an instructor.
16. I want to learn French for work. Is this program suitable?
Yes, but the best option depends on the type of French you need.
If you are a beginner and want to build your general French skills for everyday and professional communication, you can choose either:
If you need French for a specific profession or industry, such as law, healthcare, finance, engineering, or another specialized field, we recommend one-to-one lessons.
Private lessons allow the instructor to tailor vocabulary, communication situations, documents, and activities to your specific professional needs.
17. I eventually want to take the TEF or TCF. Should I start directly with exam preparation?
Not necessarily. If you are currently at A0, A1, or early A2, it would be necessary to first build your general French skills before beginning intensive TEF/TCF preparation.
18. How do I know when I am ready for TEF/TCF preparation?
There is no single point at which every learner becomes ready for TEF/TCF preparation. People learn languages at different speeds, so readiness depends on your individual progress rather than simply the amount of time you have spent studying French.
If you are enrolled in our Initiation au français program, each level is divided into 10 modules.
After approximately Module 8, if you have been progressing well, you may be ready to try one TEF/TCF Preparation class. This allows you to experience the level and type of work required for the exam.
After that class, you and the instructor can determine whether you are ready to transition into the TEF/TCF Preparation Program or whether you would benefit from continuing to strengthen your general French first.
As a general guideline, each level of our Initiation au français program consists of 10 modules:
A0–A1: 10 modules
A2: 10 modules
The approximate pace for each module is:
4 hours of instruction per week: approximately 4 weeks per module
2 hours of instruction per week: approximately 8 weeks per module
These timelines are guidelines only. Some learners progress more quickly, while others benefit from additional practice and repetition before moving to the next stage.
Our goal is to make sure you have a strong enough foundation in French before shifting your focus to TEF/TCF exam format, strategies, and performance expectations.
Choose the option that fits your French journey.
Whether you want personalized one-on-one attention, the structure and community of a group cohort, or the flexibility of
self-paced learning, we are ready to teach you French in the way that works for your life.
