1. Do you prepare students for both TEF Canada and TCF Canada?

Yes. We offer preparation focused on the skills and strategies required for both exams.

2. What is the difference between TEF Canada and TCF Canada?

They are two different exams with their own formats, instructions, and task types. However, many of the French-language skills required are common to both exams.

3. Do I need to choose between TEF and TCF before starting your program?

Not necessarily. Our program can develop the skills that are common to both exams while clearly identifying the specific expectations of the TEF and the specific expectations of the TCF where relevant.

4. Does your program completely combine the TEF and TCF?

No. TEF and TCF candidates study the same core language topics together, such as vocabulary, grammar, speaking, writing, listening, reading, and argumentation.

However, the exam preparation itself is adapted to each test.

For every relevant activity, we clearly identify:

• the TEF expectations;

• the TCF expectations;

• the specific task format;

• timing requirements;

• instructions;

• response structure; and

• exam-specific strategies.

This allows TEF and TCF candidates to learn the same language skills together while still preparing specifically for the exam they have chosen.

5. I am a beginner in French. Can I start TEF/TCF preparation right away?

Generally, no. If you are at A0, A1, or A2, you will usually need to first build a stronger foundation in general French before beginning TEF/TCF preparation.

Our TEF/TCF Preparation Program is not a traditional French-language course. Its primary purpose is to prepare candidates specifically for the exam.

The program focuses on:

• TEF/TCF task formats and expectations;

• exam strategies;

• time management;

• speaking and writing techniques;

• reading and listening strategies;

• vocabulary and grammar needed for exam performance; and

• practice with exam-style activities.

Candidates are therefore expected to already have enough French to participate in exam-focused activities.

If your French foundation is not yet strong enough, we may recommend starting with our Initiation au français program before transitioning to TEF/TCF preparation.

6. What level should I have before starting?

TEF/TCF preparation is designed for learners who already have a foundation in French and are ready to focus on exam-specific skills, strategies, and task formats.

If you are unsure whether your current French level is sufficient, you can complete our Quick French Assessment [link]. Your result will help determine whether you are ready to begin the TEF/TCF Preparation Program or whether you would benefit from strengthening your general French first.

7. Do I need to complete an assessment before registering?

It depends on whether you already have proof of your current French level.

• If you have a recent certificate or assessment confirming that you are at least A2 level, you do not need to complete our Quick French Assessment before registering.

• If you do not have documentation confirming your French level, you will need to complete our Quick French Assessment [link] before registering.

Based on your assessment result, you can then register for the program that is most appropriate for your current level.

Please keep in mind that an A2 certificate confirms your general French level, but individual readiness for intensive TEF/TCF preparation may still vary from one learner to another.

8. Can you guarantee that I will reach B2, C1, NCLC 7, or a specific exam score?

No. We cannot guarantee a specific CEFR level, NCLC level, or TEF/TCF score.

Exam results depend on many factors, including:

• your French level when you begin the program;

• the gap between your current level and your target;

• your attendance and consistency;

• the amount of independent practice you complete;

• your exposure to French outside of class;

• how quickly you acquire and apply new language skills;

• your ability to use exam strategies effectively;

• your performance under timed exam conditions; and

• your performance on the actual exam day.

Some learners progress more quickly than others, even when they begin at a similar level.

Our role is to provide you with structured preparation, targeted practice, exam strategies, and the tools you need to improve your performance. The final exam result remains dependent on the individual candidate.

9. How long does it take to reach B2?

There is no fixed amount of time that guarantees a learner will reach B2.

A candidate who begins the program close to B2 will have very different needs from someone who is currently at A1 or A2. Language-learning ability, consistency, independent practice, and previous French experience also affect the rate of progress.

Our TEF/TCF Preparation Program is structured as a 3-month program.

During those three months, the focus is on helping candidates develop the skills, strategies, and familiarity with the exam needed to improve their performance.

However, completing the three-month program does not automatically mean that every candidate will reach B2. Some candidates may be ready within that period, while others may require additional French-language development or further exam preparation.

10. I need B2 very quickly. Is that possible?

It depends primarily on where you are starting.

If you are already close to B2, focused TEF/TCF preparation may help you strengthen the specific areas needed for the exam.

If you are currently at a much lower French level, such as A1 or A2, reaching B2 within a very short period may not be realistic. 

TEF/TCF preparation can teach you how to approach the exam, but exam strategies cannot replace the time required to develop the underlying language skills.

Your progress will also depend on how consistently you study and practise outside of class.

11. Do you prepare candidates for all four language skills?

Yes, but this depends on the format you choose.

Group TEF/TCF Preparation Program

Our group program provides preparation across all four language skills:

• Listening Comprehension

• Reading Comprehension

• Speaking

• Writing

The program also covers TEF/TCF exam strategies, task formats, time management, grammar, vocabulary, response structure, and the specific expectations of each exam.

TEF and TCF candidates may study the same core language topics together, while the specific requirements, formats, and strategies for each exam are clearly identified.

One-to-One TEF/TCF Preparation

With one-to-one lessons, you choose which areas you want to focus on.

For example, you may choose to work on:

• speaking only;

• writing only;

• listening and reading;

• one specific task that you find difficult;

• exam strategies;

• grammar and vocabulary for TEF/TCF;

• or all four language skills.

One-to-one preparation is therefore particularly useful for candidates who already know which areas they need to improve or who want more targeted support.

12. Do you teach exam strategies?

Yes. Preparation includes not only French-language development but also understanding the exam format, managing time, analyzing instructions, and applying appropriate strategies to different tasks.

13. Do you work on speaking?

Yes. Candidates learn how to develop answers, ask questions, defend a point of view, provide examples, justify their ideas, and use appropriate connectors.

14. Do you correct written production?

Yes.

15. Does someone correct my speaking practice?

Yes.

16. Do you provide mock exams?

Timed exercises and mock-exam activities are included in the preparation to help candidates become familiar with the exam format and time constraints.

17. Do you use real exam questions?

We use exercises designed to reflect the format and style of the exam. The exact questions that will appear on a future exam cannot be predicted or guaranteed.

18. Can you tell me which questions will appear on the exam?

No. We prepare candidates to respond effectively to a wide range of possible topics rather than memorizing answers to predicted questions.

19. Should I memorize texts for the speaking test?

No. It is better to learn reusable structures, vocabulary, expressions, and strategies so that you can adapt to the topic you receive on exam day.

20. Is grammar important for the TEF/TCF?

Yes. Grammar is important across the entire TEF/TCF exam, not only in writing.

A strong understanding of grammar helps you:

• express yourself clearly when speaking;

• write accurately and structure your ideas;

• understand what you hear;

• understand written texts;

• narrate past events;

• explain and justify ideas;

• compare situations;

• express cause and consequence;

• make hypotheses;

• agree or disagree;

• qualify and nuance your opinions; and

• build more complex sentences as your level increases.

In our TEF/TCF Preparation Program, grammar is not taught as a series of isolated rules. It is integrated into speaking, writing, reading and listening activities so that candidates learn how to recognize and use grammatical structures in the context of the exam.

21. What vocabulary will I learn for the TEF/TCF?

Our vocabulary work is designed to help candidates communicate effectively across the range of topics and situations they may encounter during TEF/TCF preparation.

Depending on the lesson, vocabulary may relate to areas such as:

• everyday life;

• work and professional situations;

• education;

• housing;

• transportation;

• technology;

• health and well-being;

• environment;

• consumer habits;

• culture and leisure;

• relationships and social life;

• public services;

• current social issues;

• expressing opinions and arguments.

We also focus on vocabulary that helps candidates describe, explain, compare, persuade, justify, agree, disagree and defend a point of view.

The goal is not to memorize isolated word lists, but to develop vocabulary that candidates can actively use in speaking, writing, listening and reading.

22. Can I take only private lessons?

Yes, when available. Private lessons allow preparation to focus more specifically on the candidate's individual weaknesses and goals.

23. Can I take only group classes?

Yes, depending on available sessions and your current level.

24. Can I work only on speaking or writing?

With private instruction, it is possible to focus on a specific skill depending on your needs.

25. Is your program available online?

Yes. Some TEF/TCF preparation options are only available online.

26. Do I need to have already booked my exam before starting?

No. In some cases, it may actually be better to assess your level before booking an exam date that may be too soon.

27. Do you administer the TEF or TCF exam?

No. Exam preparation and official exam registration are separate processes. Candidates must register for the official exam through an authorized testing centre.

28. Are exam registration fees included in the course fees?

No, unless otherwise stated. TEF or TCF examination fees are paid directly to the authorized testing centre.

29. I have already taken the exam. Can you help me improve my results?

Yes. Targeted preparation can be particularly useful for candidates who want to improve one or more skills after a previous attempt.
